Weathered Woods

In the high country of Colorado, the weather affects everything–it is inescapable.  From the growing of crops to raising cattle, ranchers make nearly every move based upon the weather, taking it as it comes.  Where is the history of the seasons?  It’s in the leathery wrinkles on the faces of the people.  It’s in the trees and the forests.  And it’s in the buildings.  On Witcher Ranch, the outbuildings were constructed from the trees at the edge of the pasture; and they’ve stood for decades, taking on the elements in stride.  With each storm the wood gathers character.  These are their stories.  The hardware in the photos was hand-forged in the blacksmith shop onsite by Walter Witcher, grandson to Toll Witcher who founded the operation in the 1860′s.
